numbers showing president obama ahead by eight points in iowa and four points in florida. while the swing state map is what everybody is watching the swing states are the most important to keep an eye on because that's where you wrap up the votes that allow you to win the election, there's new national polling now for what it's worth. there's new polling every day. the republican leaning poll is out with their new national numbers today. their national tracking poll putting president obama up by one point nationally. the gallup tracking poll putting president obama up by three points today nationally. that's in big picture perspective of what's going on in the presidential race. for an even bigger picture perspective on those national numbers, i should point out to you that of the last 20 national presidential polls, of the 20 national polls taken in the month of september, every single one of those it 20 polls shows president obama winning nationally. the range varies from one point up to eight points in some other polls. but 20 straight national polls showing president obama ahead. that

for hispanic voters. nationwide, mr. romney trails president obama by 45 points among latino voters, but this event that you see live here is part of a concerted push by the romney campaign to try to make up some of that enormous gap. it's part of him appearing with his spanish-speaking son there, his youngest son there, craig. now, as you know, we are not in the business of airing raw candidate stump speeches at rallies during campaign season. it's because they are repetitive and because if we started just airing all the stump speeches, a, you would think that you've heard it all before, but also, it would be all that we did for months. we are going to monitor mr. romney's remarks tonight in miami. we'll bring these remarks to you if he says anything that is beyond his standard stump speech or if he makes any news about what's going on in today's headlines. but the fact that mitt romney is doing this event at all in miami is newsworthy in itself. because mr. romney has not been doing have many big, public events recently. and he has not been doing very many big, public events speci

's something important like football, well, look for the union label, america. barack obama and mitt romney and paul ryan have all seen fit to weigh in on this one football game from monday, on the referees issue. all three men saying that the green bay packers deserve to win that game. the packers got robbed. so even as the packers' agony crossed over into national politics this week, i still have to say that it remains true that the single west political green bay packers moment in history, the best moment of all time in the overlap that exists between the green bay packers and politics is still this moment. >> there are 30 teams, but only one packer organization, and that is the greatest football organization ever in america's history. there are only 187 days before training camp. and 360 days before we go back to miami! whereas the packers are america's real team, and we'll always be winners in the hearts and minds of the people of wisconsin, therefore i, tommy thompson, governor of the great state of wisconsin, do hereby proclaim january 27th, 1998, all over wisconsin, green bay packer

. here's how it looks for romney in colorado right now. the average of polls shows president obama with about a 3-point lead over mr. romney. all of that polling was done well before the democratic convention. to the extent that that convention looks to have helped president obama's campaign, that 3.4% gap might get bigger. broadly speaking, it does look like there is at least a preliminary convention bounce helping the president in some key swing states. in ohio he's increased his lead over mitt romney from three points to five points. in north carolina which hosted the convention, mr. obama had been behind in the polls. he's not got a 1-point lead. in terms of national polling, after the republicans did their convention, mr. obama and romney were tied in cnn's poll of likely voters. but today the new cnn poll came out and shows obama with a 6-point lead. the gallup poll shows the same thing. while romney experienced no bounce, mr. obama has opened up a 5-point lead. the president's job approval rating also spiked to its highest level since right after the killing of osama bin lad

, just five weeks after president barack obama was inaugurated, the defense department lifted the ban and one week after the ban was lifted, the following thursday, the media was allowed to cover that solemn return ceremony for the first time in a long time. and maybe it is because we did go so long as a country without seeing images like this that we are a little rocked back on our heels when we do see these images. today was the transfer ceremony at andrews air force base just outside washington, d.c., at which the bodies of the four americans killed in libya this week were brought home. it was the middle of the afternoon on an unusually busy news day with a million other things going on in american news and politics, but it was like time just stopped. >> we will wipe away our tears, stiffen our spines, and face the future undaunted. and we will do it together. protecting and helping one another just like sean, tyrone, glen, and chris always did. may god bless them and grant their families peace and solace, and may god continue to bless the united states of america. >> greater love

trail today. president obama was campaigning in ohio today. he was talking to a big fired up crowd in toledo. and even though the president is a pretty reliably good speaker, there is a certainly predictability to his speeches. by necessity, right? he's a candidate, he gives stump speeches. you know the broad strokes of what you're going to hear about, the middle class, the auto bailout working when mitt romney said detroit should go bankrupt, you're going to hear about ending the war in iraq, he's going to say that thing about every american getting their fair shot and every american doing their fair share and every american playing by the rules. if you're a fan, a fan enough to go to a speech like this, you likely know what you're going to hear in broad strokes. today, today on the campaign trail, there was this moment in ohio where the crowd totally thought that president obama was going somewhere that he was not actually going. they started to audibly react as if he was talking about something that they pretty clearly really wanted him to talk about. but he was not going where

at the latest poll and saying in this latest poll obama is up by 7 in iowa. i wonder if he'll hold on to that lead until election day. but now you look at the polling in iowa and say obama is up by 7 in iowa and people are voting in iowa as of this week. with early voting, every day from now until november 6th is election day. that not only saps some of the value out of the debates, which start next week, it also undercuts the potential potent si of october surprise. in the associated press write up of this early voting phenomenon this year, the write up, they quote a professor who is an expert on election statistics. if you have the game changer, you've got to do that soon. if you wait until the weekend prior to the election to release your stink bomb, you've lost coloradans, and he's right. that's one of the battleground states where most ballots are expected to be cast early. by election day, colorado will already be mostly decided. so if you're losing today, at this point in the campaign, hurry up and fix it. mitt romney's campaign adviser said back in march, remember, the etch

with us for the next hour. president obama is scheduled to speak at a campaign event in nevada shortly. you can see there he's being introduced at that event. we're not generally in the business of playing every candidate's stump speech in its entirety every time there is a campaign event with a camera present. if we did that, basically here to november would be a continuous loop of candidates giving the same speech with tiny variations over and over again, every single day. but, but at a time of great international sensitivity, like we are in today, in the wake of the deadly attack on americans at the u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya, in the last 24 hours, at times like this, frankly all of any president's public appearances have a higher than normal potential to make real news. so we are going to be monitoring the president's campaign speech, and if he makes comments about the protests in libya, we will bring that to you. the president just sat down with an interview with jose diaz balart, the host of telemundo on our sister network. excerpts of this interview are going to air on te
